Our History

Whatley Trophies had its humble beginnings back in 1972

Whatley Trophies kicked off as a home business, with very little equipment, where Ken Whatley and his family began assembling components to produce cricket trophies for his son’s cricket team the Miranda Magpies.

How We Did It

Expanding the business through ingenuity and hard work

Due to the popularity of Ken’s work, he began producing his own timber bases, which he painted himself and sourcing figurines and other components from local and overseas markets including USA, UK and Asia.

As the business grew, Ken purchased an engraving machine, power saws and a drill press, so that he could continue to produce even better trophies and awards for his growing clientele. A self-taught engraver, Ken and his Wife and children continued to grow the business, firstly from his home in Miranda and then into a premises on Taren Point road as he grew larger and more well known for his quality and excellent service and pricing.

Developing The Business

Exploring the globe to find the perfect components

Overseas Travel

Ken and his wife took many overseas trips with the view to importing components and trophy parts and eventually sold Whatley Trophies in 1982 as they moved into the importation of trophy components out of a warehouse in Miranda.

Moving On

In 1987, Ken sold the importing business to TCD in Kirrawee, NSW and retired down to the South Coast of NSW where he later passed away in 2012.

Ken’s Legacy

The legacy of hard work and ability to turn out high quality, low cost awards has lived on in today’s version of Whatley Trophies, ironically, only 500 metres from where it all started back in 1972.

Nowadays, Whatley Trophies has several different engraving machines, sublimation, Glass engraving and more, as we push on into the 21st century and the ever changing needs of our clients.
